Paddy at dog-friendly Lake District attraction Ullswater ‘Steamers’
In celebration of International Dog Day (Monday 26th August), a tail-waggingly exciting competition has just been unleashed, offering your pup the chance to become the ultimate Lake District adventurer – with you, their trusty human, by their side.
Lake District Estates, the family-run gem at the heart of the Lakes, is on the hunt for a canine champ and their well-behaved owner(s) to embark on a dog-friendly holiday review. The lucky winner will snag a coveted role as an honorary ambassador, exploring the stunning Lake District from a dog’s-eye view.
Following last year’s roaring success in finding a ‘Family Feedback Champion,’ this year’s competition takes things up a notch, putting the spotlight on our beloved canine companions. It’s all about celebrating the joy of exploring the Lakes with man’s best friend – and sharing those adventures with the world through the power of social media.
As a reward for filling their social feeds with dog-friendly escapades, the winning duo (or family) will enjoy a complimentary 3 or 4-night stay in a glamping cabin at Waterfoot Park on Ullswater. The prize includes space for up to 2 adults, 2 children, and – of course – up to 2 dogs.
With panoramic views of the surrounding fells, these cosy cabins, pods, self-catering properties, and holiday homes make the perfect base for your next adventure. And your pup is in for a treat too, with a complimentary ‘dog welcome pack’ from Sir Woofchester’s, packed with toys and treats to keep them wagging all holiday long.
But that’s not all – the winning hound will also get to hop aboard two of the Lake District’s most iconic attractions: the Ullswater ‘Steamers’ and the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway. With special ‘Rover’ tickets in paw, these VIP pooches will enjoy doggy upgrades and access to some of the most spectacular walking routes in the region.
Rachel Bell, Head of Marketing and Business Development at Lake District Estates, says: “We know dogs really are part of the family, and Cumbria is a top dog-friendly destination. In fact, the latest Cumbria Visitor Survey revealed that 30% of all visitor groups bring their four-legged friends on holiday with them.
“As International Dog Day celebrates and honours all dogs – no matter their shape, size, age, or breed – it’s the paw-fect time to launch this dog-tastic challenge!”
If you’re a social media-savvy dog owner with a camera roll full of pup pics, this could be the opportunity of a lifetime. Entering is easy – just fill out a quick online form telling Lake District Estates why your furry friend should be crowned the ‘Very Im-paw-tant Pooch’ of 2024.
Entries close at 5 pm on Monday 30 September, so don’t miss out! A panel of judges will review all submissions and select the ultimate winner.
