At Magic Media, our clients have kept our global workforce on their toes over the first half of 2023. We’ve had some incredible opportunities with great studios and clients, such as Microsoft, Gunfire Games, and Supermassive Games. Take a look at a summary of just a few of our key projects that we contributed to so far into 2023.

Remnant 2: Real-Time VFX

The Magic Media team were thrilled to engage with Gunfire Games on Remnant 2. Delivering real-time VFX and weapon modifier VFX to a game with such a unique and eye-catching visual style was a tremendous experience. Initially, the Gunfire Games team had some reluctance with outsourcing due to a prior negative experience. We were determined to give them a wholly positive one. Only one week into the project, their Principal VFX Artist stated that they were surprised and impressed by our dedication and immersion in their game, as well as the quality and speed of our delivery. They were a pleasure to work with and we’re excited for future collaborations!

Switchback VR: 3D Art

Collaborating with Supermassive Games on their latest game project was a fantastic opportunity for the Magic Media team. Getting to assist in their delivery of not only a PS5 and PSVR2 title, but also getting to continue our contribution to The Dark Pictures anthology, was a great feeling. Our 3D art team worked to assist on set-dressing a significant portion of Switchback VR’s levels. This involved using existing assets but also creating new ones and optimising older assets to take advantage of the PS5 and PSVR2’s capabilities. 

Kusto Detective Agency: Game Trailer

Collaborating with the team at Microsoft, the Magic Media group jumped at the chance to work together. Delivering a 2D animated trailer, complete with voiceover, our team created a narrative introduction and explanation for the Kusto Detective Agency experience.

The Kusto interactive experience puts players in the position of a hardboiled detective solving a mystery. Serving as a tool to assist developers in learning the Kusto Query Language (KQL), players must utilize a growing understanding of KQL to piece the mystery together. Such an interesting experience and concept, our video production team had a fantastic time working on it.

Blankos Block Party: Real-Time VFX

Following their positive launch and Blankos’ continued success, they have been expanding their game in both offering and features. The Magic Media team were happy to contribute to the game’s expansion.

Our real-time VFX and art teams collaborated to deliver multiple character real-time VFX for Blankos Block Party, for cosmetic upgrades and character skins. With their presence as a successful and stable blockchain game, we’re excited to see where their project will go next and for any future chances at working together.

Manchester City: Video Production (Game Trailer & Game Animation)

A bit of a strange entry in our usual lists of games and films! This was a huge opportunity that the Magic Media team were very excited to tackle. In collaboration with Yahoo and Manchester City Football Club, our game trailer production team and video game animators joined forces to deliver a beautiful trailer combining live action footage with some notable faces and places! We were absolutely ecstatic about the delivery and we hope that excitement was shared by the fans of Man City FC!

Movement on Disney+ Korea: Visual Effects (Set Extension, Compositing, FX, and more)

It’s not the first time we’ve collaborated with big streaming services, having delivered our assistance for a few big Netflix names! Getting to work on a Korean show for Disney+ was a fantastic opportunity, needless to say we were excited to be involved. For this project, our visual effects team delivered set extensions, environmental replacements, FX, and final compositing. The final result was spectacular so we hope it finds a way to your screen!

This was only a half-year review for us at Magic Media! We’re looking ahead at the remaining months with a lot of enthusiasm and can’t wait to share more of our work with you.
